We recently caught up with Shawn Mack to discover a cabin crew’s guide to healthy travel. This is what he said:
“Are you a traveller by passion or have to stay in the clouds due to hectic conference schedules? Do you feel your old, fitness-enthusiast self-fading as your new career-oriented self takes over? Is it difficult to keep both sides of yourself in balance?
Well, only because you have lots of traveling involved in your life certainly does not mean you’ll have to let go of fitness. Has anyone ever told you having a healthy trip is possible? Yes, it is!
Here are an experienced cabin crew’s recommendations to stay healthy during travel!
Be Wise About Your Meals
When traveling, the worst mistake one can make is to rely on airport food. Yes, the unique names on the list might sound tempting. But, they’re certainly not whole-foods. You’re likely to develop deficiencies and get your body out of shape.
Hence, one way to keep up with your fitness is by preparing the meals and snacks for your flight. Make a food bag in which you can store all the containers and jars for the flight.
Adjust light, home-cooked food in your meals instead of stocking up with canned foods. For snacks, you can add nuts, protein bars, or even chocolates!
Moreover, while traveling, you can combat bloating by adding collagen peptides to your food. Another way is to keep turmeric and ginger tea at hand.
Plus, do not forget to incorporate greens into your meals. Vegetables are a vital source of nutrients that must be present in our body to stay healthy.
Now, in case you don’t want to consume salads when tempting food rests on your table, you can compensate for it with tablets. But, do not make it a practice of substituting greens with supplements. As for snacks, you can add nuts, protein bars, or even chocolates!
Either Avoid or Treat Bloating

One, do not eat before landing. Have a drink, but do not eat to avoid the post-flight bloating. Second, while traveling, you can combat bloating by adding collagen peptides to your food.

When in planes, you’re likely to experience the most dehydrated time of your life. The change in atmosphere and time zones is sufficient to mess up with your body. However, the drastic decrease in humidity levels on an airplane means more water exits your body. Thus, leading to intensive dehydration.
According to studies, when in the air, one must consume up to 8-ounces of water every hour. So, an effective method to maintain fitness is to drink lots of water. Carry a reusable water bottle when traveling, and keep it refilled all the time.
Enjoy & Relax
Your body is healthiest when it’s happy. Whether you’re traveling or working 24/7, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t deprive yourself of the pleasures of life. It will only result in dissatisfaction, reduced productivity, and stress. Hence, stealing away joy from yourself will only harm you.
Know you deserve better, and learn to make ways for it yourself. When feeling exhausted or tired, pause for a while, and nurture yourself.
Eat something good, watch something hilarious on the seatback touch monitor screen while traveling, and do something you love in your free time you could go for a walk, swim in the cool waves of the beach, or concentrate as you do yoga. Studies show investing a portion of time on yourself and pleasure can boost happiness. It also makes you efficient at dealing with problems.”
