Iowa Wesleyan University is seeking a Director of Career Development, Internships, and Service Learning.  The Director will oversee and administer the career education, service learning, and career development needs of the students as well as facilitate the operations for credit-bearing internships and service-learning classes.  The Director will provide services that help students explore, share, connect, and prepare for life in the professional world.  This includes career advisement, career assessment facilitation, planning and delivering of marketing and outreach activities, creation and facilitation of workshops and other educational programs.  The Director will plan and deliver career services programming for students in resume building, career exploration, skills for successful interviewing, service learning, and civic engagement, and be comfortable using career management platforms.

The Director is a highly motivated self-starter and team-player with a passion for providing exceptional service to students, employers, and faculty and will have a proven track record of cooperating with colleagues and working with students to develop career skills and build relationships.  This individual will display a high degree of professional judgment, communication, training, and project management skills.  The Director will also cultivate relationships with corporate, civic, non-profit, and other partner organizations. The Director will develop an innovative and data-driven outcomes assessment program that contributes to graduation outcomes.  The director is expected to participate in the program and all-campus assessment activities.  The Director of Career Development and Internships reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to perform with a high degree of professionalism in all work settings and functions including all interactions with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni
  • Applicants will be both entrepreneurial and customer service oriented and manifest a genuine passion for helping students develop personally and professionally along with a proven ability to build collaborative and highly productive relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, solid planning and organizational skills, a high degree of quality, and attention to detail.
  • Training and workshop development and facilitation skills within a higher education setting
  • Working knowledge of resume/cover letter review and development
  • Familiarity with career-related computer systems/databases and an ability to utilize and implement the technology. Ability to learn and utilize new internet-based recruiting and computer technologies.
  • Proven ability to assess the career development and service-learning needs of a diverse student population and to provide effective services with limited resources, work effectively with a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, creative thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to approach work with an inclusive, holistic mindset and positive, growth-oriented manner.
  • Collaborative, self-directed, outcome-oriented, and strong customer service presence
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer databases and web sources to assist students with job-seeking or graduate school exploration
  • Knowledge of workforce and national and international economic and labor trends
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to career services and service-learning in a liberal arts setting
  • Professional experience in career services setting or industry involving advising/coaching, program development
  • Understanding of a wide variety of career paths and service-learning opportunities
  • Ability to effectively market and represent a program to employers across broad industries
