How to find a job during a recession? Will coronavirus impact be long lasting? So many people are currently unemployed, and social distancing requirements mean that most of the job fairs, networking events or in-person interviews are being postponed or even cancelled. 42% of workers left unemployed by COVID-19 will not return to their jobs. And for every 10 jobs destroyed by coronavirus layoffs, only 3 new jobs are being created. In this video I would like to share job hunting advice and tips for this period of recession. 1st thing for you to keep in mind that this situation is not permanent, the global economy will experience a faster recovery as soon as the Covid-19 vaccine is out! Which is why: Think short-term will help. We are living in a time when everything is changing extremely fast. Don’t plan too far in advance. You could plan for the next 30 days, 2 or 3 months as a maximum.
Focus on companies which actively advertise new positions. If the industry you worked for is affected, you should start being strategic and shift your job search focus to a different industry. Many industries are still hiring, and some like healthcare, logistics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, education or remote services are even experiencing an increase of recruitment needs.
Network in digital spaces, especially on Linkedin. You know the vast majority of recruiters turn to LinkedIn to source candidates. Sometimes recruiters even skip publishing the jobs or checking all the job applications. Which is why, this is a perfect time to update your LinkedIn profile.
Job hunting through a recession is frustrating and stressful. Make sure you take breaks, take time to exercise, meditate, speak with a friend, or whatever else which makes you feel better. But don’t stop applying to jobs.
