My love of reading didn’t come until I was an adult. In fact, I really struggled at first to learn to read and because of that, I hated reading throughout elementary school and high school. Honestly, because of the option of listening to books, I now absolutely LOVE reading. I can read so many more books this way and I can do it on my drive to work, the grocery store or Barnes and Noble ;).

Being someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety my entire life, I started dabbling in personal development in my twenties. I started with Tony Robbins (who is still one of my favorites). But I didn’t read as much as I could or should have.

It was just in the last couple of years where I realized to really be successful not only in my own personal happiness and self-love but also in my entrepreneurial aspirations I need to be reading books. And I need to read as many as many personal development books as I can.

I am now officially of personal development junkie!!

One of the best ways I’ve been able to get through so many books is through Audible. The small monthly fee is minimal and I can get a new book every month. It’s definitely worth the investment.

I really pumped up my reading game last year and I’d love to share with you my favorite books that I’ve read so far and my honest opinion of them. Some of them were seriously life-changing.

Let’s get into the list!

This book is my #1 for a reason. This book helped me to completely change my mindset. I really resonated with the author and what she says in this book was instrumental in helping push me forward and learn to love myself. This book is witty, funny, inspirational and one that you will want to binge because it’s THAT good.

You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero

Just like my #1 pick, this book is by the same author and it’s fair to see why I would love this book as well. There are some repeat things in this book from the first one but it does go deeper into your mind blockage with money and really helped to open my mind to letting money into my life.

The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

Mel Robbins is a get straight to the point, don’t take shit kind of motivational guru. She can get a little brassy, smart-assy and foul-mouthed at times and that’s what I love about her. This 5-second rule helped me in several aspects, including not hitting the snooze button in the morning.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m NOT a morning person and I was the type of person who had to have several alarms on my phone to get me up in the morning. Along with this book, you can also get her 30-day email series of challenges and tasks that go along great with the book. If you get this book, definitely sign up for the emails as well.

This is an Audible exclusive, which means you can only find it on Audible. But holy hell, I pretty much love everything Mel puts out.

She is sassy, smart-assy, and doesn’t hold back on telling it like it is. And in the process gets some really great points across and gives you actionable steps you can take to get your shit together.

Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins

Tony was the first personal development guru I tried when I first started my personal development journey. It was because of one of Tony’s programs that I got (which was very expensive, but well worth it) that gave me the tools to build my own confidence enough to know I needed to get out of my abusive toxic relationship with my ex-husband. Awaken the giant within gives you extremely productive actionable steps you can take towards becoming a better person and achieving your goals.

The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran, Michael Lennington

I swear this book really blew up last year and I was seeing it all over the place. Tons of people in my blogging groups were raving about this book and how it helped them to do exactly what the title says, get more done in 12 weeks. I have to say – the strategy that this book details is pure genius yet so simple to implement. If you have some big goals you’ve been putting off, you need to read this book.

Unfu*k Yourself by Gary John Bishop

As you could probably tell by the title if you’re easily offended by swear words you probably shouldn’t read this book. If profanity is ok with you, definitely read. This is a really in your face kind of book that helps you get honest about your fucked up life and how to flip it around.

The Goddess Revolution by Mel Wells

This is the book I’m currently reading and I’m almost done with it. So far this book is profoundly helpful in learning to overcome the struggle that so many women face with not loving their bodies and having food and diet issues. If this is something you’ve struggled with at any point in your life, get this book and put it at the top of your list to read.

Think and Grow Rich for Women by Sharon Lechter

This is one of those personal development books I swear every single coach and personal development person tells you to read. I originally read through the original book and thought, “yes, it’s really great at explaining how your mindset has the biggest impact on your success.”

However, the reason why I’m recommending this book instead of the original is because of the tone of the original book. I believe it is more geared towards men in a pretty biased way.

The way it talked about what a woman should be doing for her man and some other geared towards men sayings, I recommend this version of the book instead. The original is still good if you can get over the time it was written in – you know “a man’s world”.

This version is geared towards women. It gets the same points across without being biased towards a “woman’s place” in society.

I love Brian Tracy. He is a gentle soft-spoken inspirer that truly tells it like it is. He’s not too in your face, but he’s honest about what you need to do to achieve your goals. This book is my favorite of his.

I’ve read Eat That Frog! which is also a great book by Brian Tracy.

These three books are all by Dave Asprey who is the guy changing the aging realm through eating right, alternative medicine, and is the guinea pig for trying new innovations in aging and health. His goal is to live to 180!!

Every book Dave puts out I try to read and these were the three I read this year.

This book was a huge game-changer for me personally. There were so many great tips in here from the hundreds of interviews that Dave has done throughout his life with successful people. This was the first of Dave’s books I had read and it really blew my mind. It’s definitely one of those books you’ll read more than once.

If you want to really level up your life, listen to this book. It will dramatically change your perspective.

This book is all about eating to level up your body and to eat the way you’re supposed to. Dave recommends checking your gut health and testing food sensitivities using Viome. Which I personally did after having too many digestive issues.

I’m now following the bulletproof diet, which is close to Keto, but not exactly the same. I’m also really loving Bulletproof coffee. After reading this book I finally figured out how to make it the right way!

There’s also an amazing cookbook that goes along great with this diet.

This is Dave’s newest book that just released this year. Although there are some repeat things he talks about in this book if you’ve read any of his other ones. This one does have quite a few new things. Plus it’s always good to hear things a few times, you know, so they stick!

There is one other author who whenever she puts something out, I read it.

In the last few years, I’ve really become spiritual and have finally found a comfortable place of spiritual practice. And I’m happy to say that it’s because of coming across Gabby Bernstein’s books. Below are all of her books (in no particular order) and yes, I do recommend you read them all.

This is her most recent book and this is now my favorite book of hers. I love how honest and how she just lays it all out there for you.

Also, Gabby puts out these gorgeous cards…

You can shuffle them and pull a card daily to receive the guidance you need from the universe.

And she also has these awesome journals to jot down your thoughts from the books and meditations you do.

There’s my list of the best personal development books.

Is your favorite book on this list?
